The Defender Games / Chapter 8: The Great Escape
“Would it make you feel better if I said I just meant to slow him down, not…injure him?”Everybody was back in the locker room hydrating and they all had to have a looooooong talk with Jacques about the stunt he had just pulled. Jacques would never admit this to anyone, but he did feel a bit bad for indirectly hurting Megamind’s ankle in the last challenge. Pierou-Wave just narrowed her eyes. “Okay…but you can’t just do that to someone just because ya don’t trust them! And now the literal alien supergenius is ticked off at you now!” “Alright, alright, I know! Geez…” Right at that moment, Ivan and Rose from earlier entered the locker room with about six bubble teas. “Hey, y’all,” Rose greeted the remaining competitors. “The Hero’s Guild’s lettin’ the booted heroes stay in DC until the Games are over, so we decided to get y’all somethin’!” Foxglove popped his head out from behind his locker door. “That isn’t dairy, is it?” “Nope,” Ivan shook his head. “Yours is the blackberry lemonade with the lemon boba.”“Sweet.” After handing Foxglove his bubble tea, Ivan tried to hand one to Jacques, who immediately recoiled. “NO!!” In the other end of the room, Megamind took a sip of his own tiger sugar milk tea and looked over at him, confused. “What, are you on one of those fancy diets or something?” Jacques paused, then decided that the diet thing was a good excuse. “…Yeah. I’m…getting into watching my sugar lately.” ******************************************************************************Back at the arena, the remaining six heroes lined up again and saw that the field of eggs and rocks had been cleared, and three mid-sized sheds had been put in its place. “Hey, Koa…?” Made-U-Look rose her hand as Koa entered the arena with the heroes. “How’d you guys even get rid of all those eggs and rocks anyway?” Koa shrugged. “We’ve got our heavy lifters to do that sort of thing. Any who, we were going to save this challenge for the penultimate challenge, but given our latest incident,” he then motioned to Megamind’s braced ankle as he said this, “We’ve decided to run it now, just to give you guys a break from all the physical challenges. Now, to begin, a question. How many of you have been in an escape room before?” Made-U-Look, Foxglove, and Nagina raised their hands. Megamind perked up at the words ‘escape room’. “Well, I’ve never been inside one of these, but my darling Roxanne has talked them up to be quite a bit, so I’m eager to try one out!” Koa nodded. “Good. Now, for coming in at first place last time, Nagina gets a special reward!” Nagina slithered forward and puffed her chest out slightly in anticipation. “This is going to be a partner challenge, meaning two people will be taking on each escape room. The other two pairs will be randomly selected, but Nagina gets to actually choose her partner. Nagina, who will YOU take with you into our Superhero Escape Room?” Nagina didn’t respond. She just blinked, looked over at Megamind, and looked back at Koa. “Is that a trick question?”(Confessional: Nagina)Nagina: (shrieks with starstruck delight) THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!! I get to do my favorite family night thing WITH. MY. FREAKIN. HERO?! (starts spinning around) THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LI---Oh, shoot!!! (knocks over the camera) Oh, gosh! I’m so sorry! Did I ruin the take?!Roxanne: (picking the camera up, laughing) It’s okay! You’re okay! (confessional ends)“Alright, so escape room number one will be solved by Nagina and Megamind!” Koa agreed, then turned the Jumbotron back on. “Now let’s see who will be solving escape room number two!” The Jumbotron lit up and after a few seconds, pulled up two random photos. “And it looks like…Pierou-Wave and Foxglove will be solving escape room number two! Which leaves Made-U-Look and Jacques Shock with escape room number three!” While the audience applauded, Megamind and Nagina cheered while Pierou-Wave and Foxglove simply shrugged in mutual respect. Made-U-Look wasn’t so lucky. Jacques was already infamous for being hard to work with. Now with his behavior lately with Megamind, solving the challenge in time would be next to impossible. Satisfied, Koa continued. “Alright, now to the challenge part! Obviously at this point, we’re going to be doing an escape room challenge! This particular escape room is modelled after a skeevy supervillain’s lair from the good ol’ 1980s. One person in each pair will play the hero, and the other will play the hostage that they have to rescue. The two of you will work together to solve various puzzles to unlock the two separate rooms and rescue your hostage before the villain returns in about seventy-five minutes. No pressure.” He gave everyone a moment to process what he said before adding another detail. “Oh, and one more thing. If your pair is the last one out of your escape room or you don’t complete it before the time runs out, it’s not just one of you who’s getting eliminated. We’ve decided that BOTH members of the losing team will be sent home!” At that, everyone gasped. A double elimination?! Was Koa out of his mind? “You’re bootin’ two people at the same time?!” Pierou-Wave had to confirm what she had just heard. “That just seems like a way to get rid of us faster, innit?!” Koa nodded. “You are correct. We normally wouldn’t do this, but we’re running out of time and challenge ideas, so this is what we’re doing. Okay?” Nobody else said anything; they understood. All that was left now was to decide who would be the hero and which would be the hostage. (Confessional: Foxglove)Foxglove: I’ll be the hostage for Pierou-Wave. First off, I’ve had a history with escape rooms, and I’m a bit scared of breaking something again. I’ll just wrap myself in some honeysuckle and if Pierou-Wave needs my help, I’ll just unwrap myself real quick and go right back to it!(Confessional: Megamind)Megamind: I have a feeling that I should be the hostage here. Not just because I’ve held YOU hostage more times than I can count…but this way I can assist Nagina without moving around as much! Besides, with Jacques on a different team, there’s no way he can sabotage me here!(Confessional: Jacques Shock)Jacques: … Made-U-Look’s gonna take full advantage of this, isn’t she?(confessional ends)Just as Jacques feared, Made-U-Look almost immediately enveloped him in a purple substance that took the shape of a teddy bear at the head. “You’re staying where I can see you,” she warned him as she dragged him over to their escape room. Seeing that the Native American goth had Jacques under control, Koa simply handcuffed Megamind and allowed Foxglove to simply grow some honeysuckle around himself to act as rope, then led each team into the first part of their escape rooms. “Like I said, y’all have seventy-five minutes until the villain who lives here comes back, and no hero wants to be caught while rescuing a damsel in distress. You may ask for three hints and ONLY three hints if you’re stuck on any of the puzzles. And the Superhero Escape Room Challenge begins….NOW!!!” SLAM! All three escape room doors slammed shut on cue, and the seventy-five minute timer began. The race for first was on! One of the first things each pair of heroes saw when they entered the dimly lit first section of their escape rooms was three Rubik’s cubes on the floor, several treasure chests, and tiles on the wall resembling the periodic table of the elements. All this, and a simple chair and a lightbulb hanging from the ceiling of a very dingy looking basement. Everyone was stumped. Everyone, of course, except Megamind. He just knew that the Rubik’s cubes had to have something to do with the whole puzzle, and he let Nagina know it. “Well, of course...” Nagina had to agree with him. “But there’s three Rubik’s cubes here. How do we know which one we’re supposed to solve?” “Hm. Good point.” He rubbed his chin as he tried to come up with something from their slim arsenal of clues. “Why don’t you try to find some other clues around the room while I find out what these puzzle cubes have to do with our situation here?” He then sat down in the chair and started fiddling with the cubes while Nagina felt around for any secret doors. ROOM 2: Pierou-Wave and Foxglove weren’t so quick to decipher anything. After a couple of minutes feeling around the table of elements hoping to find a secret door behind the hydrogen or the sodium tiles (there wasn’t any), Foxglove spotted a small stuffed rat on the floor and unraveled some of his honeysuckle to pick it up. “Hey, look at this little guy!” He squeezed it a little. “Maybe there’s something inside it?” Pierou-Wave shook her head. “I don’t think so. I mean, what do rats have to do with superheroes and villains in the 80s anyway?”“Well, there’s only one way to find out!” Foxglove managed to find the seam in the rat that held it together, poked a small hole in it where the mouth of the rat would be and started pulling out stuffing. Not finding anything when he peeked inside, he started pulling out more and more stuffing out of the stuffed rat, to the point where Pierou-Wave was getting visibly uncomfortable as she watched. “OI, lad! Whaddya goin’ on about?! QUIT GUTTIN’ THE THING FROM THE SNOOTER!!” Right at that moment, Koa’s voice rang out from the PA again. “I forgot to mention that anything with a round red sticker on it is NOT part of the escape room, but rather a prop that is to be left alone.” Foxglove took a closer look at the rat he had been gutting and sure enough, one of those red stickers was on its underbelly. He then awkwardly put the rat down where he found it and re-wrapped himself in honeysuckle. “Aaaaaand that’s what I was afraid of…”(Confessional: Koa James)Koa: Honestly, that’s not the worst thing someone’s done to one of our escape rooms. About two years ago, somebody managed to get himself disqualified for breaking a water pipe after being told MULTIPLE times that there were no clues under the floor boards. (in stage whisper) It was Dublin Fury.(confessional ends)ROOM 3: Jacques and Made-U-Look were having a little more success than room two. They had managed to piece together that the Rubik’s cubes had something to do with the rest of the room, but not much beyond that. “So, we’ve managed to figure out that the elements table is, in fact, not a keypad but in fact moving tiles,” Made-U-Look recapped what she and Jacques learned so far, “And that there’s a key for one of these chests somewhere. There’s really no other reason for there to be Rubik’s cubes in here other than to hide a key.” Jacques could only nod. He really couldn’t move in the rubber teddy bear casing he was stuck in. “Maybe if you’d actually let me say anything, we’d have gotten this done by now?!” “I just asked you for suggestions several times and you refused to say anything! This is literally the first time you’ve said anything all challenge!” However, as Made-U-Look was ranting, the Rubik’s cube she was holding started to rattle, as if something was in it. She and Jacques immediately stared at it in complete disbelief. “…The key…is INSIDE THE CUBE?!” ROOM 1: Megamind and Nagina had managed to piece together the same thing. Megamind had managed to single out which cube held the key that they needed, and he just needed to solve it. “Alright, while you solve that, I’ll try and figure out which of these chests we’re supposed t---”“Solved it!” Megamind had managed to solve the cube – and free the key – in the span of a few seconds! Thankfully, his hands were cuffed in the front, not the back. “Formerly evil supergenius, remember?” After announcing this, Megamind looked around the room, looking for a keyhole that would fit their key. After having to stand up and limping up to the smallest chest of the bunch, he found it. “It looks like it fits this lock over here!” In excitement, Nagina took the key from her hero and stuck it in the lock, squealing in delight. “This is awesome!! I think we’re even ahead of the others! NERDY WEIRDOS FOR THE WIN!!” She cheered as she unlocked the chest which contained a rolled up piece of parchment and a wooden stake with the word “FEAR” painted on it. Pushing the wooding stake aside for now, Nagina unrolled the parchment to reveal…nothing?! “Oh…” she obviously deflated. Megamind shook his head and took the parchment from her. “Not so fast, partner! Oldest trick in the book. Do you smell that?” “Smell what?” Right as she asked that question, Nagina DID smell it; there was a lingering smell of lemon on the parchment. “Our next clue is written in lemon juice, which is acting as an invisible ink,” Megamind continued. “All we need to do is apply enough heat for a long enough time and our next clue will be revealed!” And with that, he cautiously held the paper up against the single lightbulb that was hanging in the middle of the room. ROOM 3: Made-U-Look finally managed to solve the Rubik’s cube that held that room’s key and managed to find which chest it belonged to. Just like Megamind and Nagina in room one, she found the seemingly blank parchment and the wooden stake. “So it’s blank?” Jacques managed to lean over Made-U-Look’s shoulder to peek at their next clue. She shook her head at him. “No, it’s just written in invisible ink; I’m sure of it. We just need to find a heat source to activate it.” She looked around for a few seconds before Jacques finally spoke up. “Hey, uh…my lightning could act as this all important heat source if you wouldn’t mind…freeing me from this giant girly gummi bear thing you’ve got me in here.” “And give you another chance to take Megamind out of the games? I don’t think so.”Jacques looked visibly offended at this remark. “WHAT?! Me?....No, I want to win! What do you think I’m gonna do once I’m free?”“Well, based on how you’ve been acting towards the new guy – and everyone else in general – there’s no telling what you’re gonna do!” Made-U-Look shot back. “To be frank, I really can’t tell if you actually believe what you say about him or if you’re just trying to get the upper hand! Why do you think I’ve been trying to do this whole escape room by myself?!”“Oh, so you admit it now! You’re not letting me do anything because you’re not willing to trust me! I knew it!”“Well, DUH!! This is the DEFENDER Games!! For superheroes!! And this entire time, you’ve been acting like the exact opposite! Are you a hero or not?!”Ouch. Again, Jacques would never admit this, but that last remark genuinely stung. ROOM 1: After a few minutes, Megamind finally got the invisible ink to activate under the lightbulb to reveal a string of numbers: 112-115-118-110. He cocked his head slightly at it, confused. “Do you supposed this could be the combination for the lock?” Nagina shook her head. “Nah. It’s only a four digit lock. It could have something to do with it, though…” She then groaned. “Geez, I can hear Made-U-Look and Jacques screaming at each other from here, and they’re two rooms over.” As she glared at the wall next to them, her eyes suddenly drifted back to the table of elements on the wall. “Wait a second…some of those elements shouldn’t be there!” Megamind looked over at where she was and sure enough, he spotted what she did. “I think I see what you mean! This escape room is supposed to be set in the 1980s…”“…And the elements with atomic numbers 110 through 118 were discovered AFTER that!” Nagina finished, her spirit re-ignited. “Alright, so which elements should I move?” Megamind looked at the clue again and guided her. “The first one is copernicum, then moscovium, then oganesson, and finally darmstadtium.” Sure enough, under each of those specific tiles were single digit numbers: 6-4-7-9!ROOM 2: After what seemed like hours, Pierou-Wave and Foxglove were absolutely stumped. Finally, Pierou-Wave threw up her hands and shouted, “KOA!! WE NEED A HINT OVER ‘ERE!!” “Pierou-Wave, are you crazy?!” Foxglove hissed at her. “We can figure this out!” “No, we can’t! The other two teams are probably already in the second part of their rooms already!” Thankfully, Koa was willing to oblige. He announced over the PA, “This is your first hint: The Rubik’s cubes are not just for show! Thankfully, you only need one of them!” As fate would have it, one of the cubes rattled when Pierou-Wave shook it, meaning it had something inside of it! “Okay, I guess we just solve---”“WE DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THAT!!!” Foxglove shrieked/squealed as he, out of sheer panic, broke free of his honeysuckle, grabbed the Rubik’s cube from her and HURLED it at the ground! The cube shattered upon impact, freeing their key! Pierou-Wave could only stare. “Well, that’s one way to do it…”ROOM 3: Jacques was momentarily speechless. He had not been expecting Made-U-Look to go this far in an argument. Weighing his options, he finally saw that he’d painted himself into a corner. They were in the middle of a timed event, he was stuck in a giant gummi bear, and they were running out of options. There was nothing left to do but admit defeat. “Alright, fine. If you let me out of this gummi bear thing and actually help you, I’ll…” He silently wished for an easier way to do this, “I’ll leave Megamind alone. Deal?”Made-U-Look raised an eyebrow. “And you’ll apologize.” Jacques winced. The goth was driving a hard bargain. “Ffffffftttt…yes. I’ll apologize. After the challenge.” Made-U-Look sighed. “It’s a start.” She finally popped the giant gummi bear to free Jacques, who then used his lightning powers to heat up the invisible ink on their clue. In just a few seconds, the same string of numbers was revealed as room one: 112-115-118-110. Made-U-Look was just baffled. “Maybe that’s the combination for the lock?” Jacques shook his head. “It’s a four-digit lock.” Made-U-Look thought about it for a second, then snapped her fingers. “It might be the last digit of each number!” “Koa’s not that smart, is he?”(Confessional: Koa James)Koa: …Wow. I spend all week trying to write that escape room and all I get is ‘he’s not that smart, is he’?! SERIOUSLY?! Do these people want the million or not?!(confessional ends)ROOM 2: Just like the other two teams, Pierou-Wave and Foxglove finally came across the blank parchment and wooden stake. Unlike the other teams, however, they didn’t think to apply heat to the paper. “Forget it,” Pierou-Wave tossed the paper back into its chest after looking all over it for a clue, even written in fine print. “We’ll try some of these other chests. They look like they all use the same lock.” Foxglove nodded. “Yeah, maybe we can find something to just pick the lock instead,” he chuckled. Pierou-Wave opened another chest’s lock, peeled it open…and started screaming at the top of her lungs! “What?! What is it?! Is it bad?!” Foxglove looked into the chest and started screaming as well! What was it that was so bad?! Was it shrunken heads? Poisonous spiders? Nope.Dolls. Creepy Victorian style baby dolls. “WHY IS THAT EVEN IN HERE?!?!”ROOM 1: Having entered the combination that they found (6-4-7-9), Nagina and Megamind made it to the second room long before either of the other teams! Just as they were about to walk in, however, Megamind immediately froze in his tracks, eyeballing something on the floor. “Don’t move,” was all he could say. Nagina started searching the floor for anything out of the ordinary. “What? What is it?” Megamind didn’t answer. He simply leaned against the doorframe so he could raise his good foot…and brought it down to the floor with a glorious SLAMM!! Satisfied, Megamind limped his way into the second room, leaving behind the corpse of a wolf spider. “I hate spee-iders.” The two finally entered the second section of their room, which was considerably nicer than the first. On the first wall they saw was a message; “The Master of Evil sends his regards; Can you escape without fear piercing your heart?” Megamind rolled his eyes. “That’s got to be the cheesiest last-minute riddle I’ve ever heard. And Master of Evil? Come on, that could be anybody.” As he finished speaking, he felt himself kick something. Under a table was a small piece of wood that looked kind of like a…. “A human ventricle?” Nagina picked the piece up, confused. “It could be part of a puzzle. There might be more around here.” “Let’s just hope we don’t have any more puzzles to solve for more pieces,” Megamind began hopping around in search for pieces that might go with the one they found. “Not that I don’t enjoy the challenge, but we’ve already used up thirty minutes of our time here.”ROOM 3: After a while of sleuthing, Jacques had finally figured out their clue; it had something to do with the table of elements. Although he didn’t see what these particular elements had in common with each other, he did manage to find the lock combination behind the correct tiles. He also couldn’t stop thinking about what Made-U-Look had said earlier. Was he a hero or not? As Made-U-Look entered the combination into their first lock, Jacques spoke up again. “Becoming a hero to experience the glory of it all can’t be all that bad, can it?” Silence. That’s not good. “I mean, why did you become a hero?” Made-U-Look finally turned around. “Because I care about my home city and the police are useless.” Jacques blinked. “Oh. That’s…okay, that’s a better reason than mine…” he mumbled under his breath. Before they entered the next part of their escape room, Made-U-Look stopped. “Hey, wasn’t there a wooden stake in the same chest as the paper with the numbers on it? Should we take it with us? It could be part of another puzzle in here.” Jacques didn’t even turn around. “Just leave it. If we end up needing it -which we won’t - we’ll come back for it.” ROOM 2: While the two other teams were already making their ways to the second halves of their escape rooms, Pierou-Wave and Foxglove were still trying to figure out the first half of theirs. After the doll fiasco, they decided to just ditch the chests and start flipping random tiles of the elements table over, looking for numbers. Finally, Foxglove just happened to flip over the moscovium tile, revealing a number 4. “Oh, thank the Lord Almighty, we’re getting somewhere!” the young teen laughed in relief. Pierou-Wave randomly flipped over the darmstadtium tile to find the number 9 as he was talking. “Oh, God save the Queen, I found another one!” After a while, they finally managed to narrow it down to only four numbers; 4, 6, 9, and 7. “I can’t believe it! We’re actually making progress!” Pierou-Wave started entering the numbers they found in the lock, excited. “We might actually make it out of here on time!”ROOM 1: It only took the room one team a few minutes to completely assemble their puzzle, which resembled a model of the human heart! There was just one problem; there was a weird hole in the middle and they had no idea where to go from here. “Well, that’s ten minutes of our lives we’re never getting back,” Nagina huffed. Megamind simply stared at the puzzle for a little bit. He then noticed that the table they set the puzzle on had a hole in it that looked just like the hole in the puzzle. “Without fear piercing your heart…” he repeated the message from earlier to himself, stayed silent for a few seconds, then finally got it. “The stake!” Nagina snapped to attention. “What?! What stake?”“The stake that was in the same chest as the parchment from earlier! I’ll bet that we’re supposed to pierce this heart with it!” Nagina examined the puzzle, still perplexed, but she trusted Megamind’s judgement. He had managed to figure out the invisible ink trick pretty quickly. “Well, if you’re sure, I’ll go get it.” After retrieving the stake, she pushed it down into the hole in the heart puzzle and the table and sure enough, a little door opened in the table with a line of objects pictured on a slide; a clock, a book, a magnifying glass, and a lava lamp. “What the…?”ROOM 3: “I can’t believe this,” Jacques rubbed his forehead in exasperation. Like the room one team, he and Made-U-Look spent ten minutes completing a puzzle shaped like a human heart only to stumble on the same pitfall; absolutely no other ideas and a weird hole in the middle. Right at that moment, Made-U-Look remembered something. The wooden stake that she had seen earlier (and asked Jacques if they needed) had the word “FEAR” painted on it, and the message on the wall just happened to reference fear piercing the heart! “Oh, you have got to be kidding me…” She then trudged her way back to the first section of the room. “Hey!” Jacques objected. “Where do you think you’re --- Oh.” Made-U-Look had returned with the stake, looking about ready to stab Jacques with it at this point. ROOM 1: This time, Megamind didn’t figure out their clue until he had nearly knocked a lava lamp off the dresser it was sitting on, and then noticed the number 3 painted on the bottom! “Hey wait…IT’S THE NEXT COMBINATION!!” He then hopped over to the clock hanging on the wall, and on the back of it was the number 8! Nagina’s eyes widened as she looked over their clue again. She managed to dig through the eleven books in the room to find the right one with the number 1 written on the back cover, and the magnifying glass from inside a drawer with a 5 drawn on the handle. The snake themed hero couldn’t even keep still, she was so excited! “Do you think we’re in first place?” Even Megamind couldn’t quit smiling as he entered the combination 8-1-5-3 into the second lock. “Oh, but of course! In a battle of the brains, who else is more suited for victory than a duo of superhero prodig—Oh…” For some reason, the combination he had entered didn’t work on the lock. Well, that kind of killed the moment. “Maybe enter it backwards?”ROOM 3: Jacques and Made-U-Look finally finished the heart puzzle and found the same lineup of images as the other team, and they too had no idea how these objects could help them out. What they heard next made Jacques’ stomach drop. It was worse than their timer going off; it was Koa’s voice over the PA shouting, “ESCAPE ROOM NUMBER ONE HAS BEEN SOLVED BY MEGAMIND AND NAGINA WITH FIFTEEN MINUTES TO SPARE!! THEY TIE FOR FIRST PLACE!!!” Made-U-Look also stopped what she was doing for a minute to listen to Koa, but didn’t seem as worried about it. “Well, at least there’s the race for not last!” “Are you FREAKIN’ SERIOUS?! OF COURSE, KOA PAIRS THE TWO NERDS TOGETHER!! OF ALL THE ROTTEN STINKIN’---”“Jacques!”“WHAT?!”“Would you like to go back in the gummi bear?”And just like that, Jacques immediately put a stop to his tantrum. Just like magic! “Uh…on second thought, at least we’re not out yet?” Made-U-Look just rolled her eyes. “Good.” So far, she had managed to figure out that the images in their next clue had something to do with the second combination lock. Now she just had to solve it…ROOM 2: After a ridiculous amount of time trying different combinations on the first lock, Pierou-Wave just happened to randomly stumble on the right one and finally unlocked the door to the second section of the room. “The Master of Evil sends his regards; can you escape without fear piercing your heart…” Pierou-Wave read the message on the wall out loud. “Master of Evil? Are you serious?” Foxglove asked to no one in particular. “That’s almost a worse villain name than Carnivorrior the Vegan Slayer. Come on, dude. I have actual food allergies, not tryin’ to make a stateme---AAAAAAHHHH!!!” Foxglove caught sight of their timer and they only had ten minutes left! They managed to waste more than an hour in the first section alone! Poor little guy started panicking again. “OH MY GOSH!! WE’VE ONLY GOT TEN MINUTES LEFT!! WE GOTTA—OH, GEEZ, WE’VE GOTTA---” As he was freaking out, vines of ivy started sprouting from the floorboards. Oh, this was not good. “Fox! Foxglove!!” Pierou-Wave tried to get her partner’s attention, but it was pretty much no use. “FOXGLOVE, YOU’RE LOSING CONTROL OF YOUR POWERS!!” Right as she finished her sentence, their timer suddenly stopped at 9:42, and everything went quiet. “Oh, no…” Just as the two of them feared, the door to the entrance they came in opened, and Koa entered the section of the room they were in, which was now infested in ivy. “Wow…well, at least this can be fixed easily. Any who, Made-U-Look and Jacques Shock managed to complete their escape room with, as you can see, nine minutes and forty-two seconds to spare. Since you managed to waste more than an hour in the first section of the room alone, you’re both in last place and you’re both going home!” The two heroes slumped over in defeat as they reluctantly exited their escape room and headed for the arena exit, waving goodbye to their four remaining competitors. Pierou-Wave went as far as to curtsey to the lineup of heroes that were left. “I’m glad to have competed with you all…yes, even Jacques. And especially you, Blue.” Megamind nodded respectfully. “Allow me to echo your praise; it’s been my esteemed honor to compete against the both of you!” In another part of the line, Made-U-Look had to give Foxglove a hug before he left. “Sorry we had to do that to you…we needed the win.” Foxglove nodded, tearing up. “It’s fine…make the finale for me…” As he backed away, he turned to Nagina and made the ‘call me’ sign. “Call me…” he managed to utter to her before darting to the exit, not wanting to lose it in front of the audience. Pierou-Wave sorrowfully followed him. (Confessional: Made-U-Look)Made-U-Look: Okay, as much as I wanted to take Jacques out of the games, I wasn’t about to stoop down to his level. Besides, there’s always next round and I’m pretty sure I’ve got him under control anyway. (Confessional: Nagina)Nagina: Man, poor Foxglove. Not only do I know for a fact that he’s never made it out of an escape room on time in his life, if I didn’t know better… (holds up lotus bouquet from a while ago) I’d say he kind of had a crush on me…(Confessional: Megamind)Megamind: Well…so much for Jacques facing my wrath. Really wasn’t worth it, though. And you were correct, my dear Roxanne, the escape room was by far my favorite challenge in the Games so far! Okay, next round. Next round, for sure, Jacques will meet his match!(confessional ends)...
